I started working on this setting recently, and it didn’t take me long to start looking for stories I could tell. It’s a fantasy setting inspired by North America during the 1800s with some other influences mixed in. Most of the stories I plan on telling will take place in Ancorda, a young nation that occupies its world’s equivalent of America. There’s bandits, corrupt business owners, vengeful spirits, and fire-slinging wizards.
When I started working on the setting I picked the name because I envisioned a country that’s been overrun by industry, where railroads criss-cross the map, and the wild places are getting harder to find. The world I’ve ended up working on isn’t like that. Railroads and telegraph lines are making the world a smaller place, but they still have a ways to go. Sprawling Iron is about a world that will be overrun one day. One day its cities will have more people than they know what to do with, smog will choke its skies, and nowhere will be left that man has not touched. For now though, there’s still plenty of adventure to be had.
